Sammy's illustration of Yu & Me Books was what sparked his series of iconic Chinatown storefronts, landmarks, and community spaces, which he first exhibited at Pearl River Mart. That led to his Route 66 project and his eventual return to our gallery.
Yu & Me Books is first AAPI woman-owned bookstore in New York City. Owner Lucy Yu opened the store to create the kind of space she longed for growing up, spotlighting diverse voices and immigrant stories.
This drawing depicts a proposed mobile bookstore with Yu & Me Books. Amarrillo, TX is the second fastest growing midsize city in America and has a 5.9% Asian population. The goal of the mobile bookstore would be to elevate underrepresented AAPI authors and stories along Route 66.
