Sharing Lunar New Year Traditions with John Elliott and CBS
Many thanks to CBS New York's John Elliott for stopping by to talk about Lunar New Year with us.
The veteran meteorologist came to our Soho store for a Lunar New Year-edition of his Sunday morning show, during which we shared fun facts about the Chinese zodiac, the Year of the Horse personality, the importance of wearing new clothes, and other Lunar New Year traditions.
He also had one-on-one time with:
- Pearl River Mart President Joanne Kwong, who gave an overview of lucky foods and what they mean as well as 2026 predictions according to the Pocket Chinese Almanac
- Cookbook author and James Beard finalist Christine Wong (The Vibrant Hong Kong Table), who shared even more about auspicious eats and imparted a dumpling pleating lesson
- Red Envelope Show creator and curator Albert Chau, who talked about his longtime show and red envelope do's and don'ts
- Kimbap Lab partner and general manager Dan Ahn, who shared Korean Lunar New Year foods and traditions (including an adorable video of his niece)
- Members of Columbia University Lion Dance, who gave a lively performance
- Light Up Chinatown founders Joanne Kwong and Chung Seto, who discussed this important community initiative
Much thanks again to John, photographer Vince, and CBS New York. It was an honor and pleasure to host you! Happy New Year!
